OO Writer can do much layout equivalent to MS Publisher. I would also like to recommend Publisher Plus for Mac, Pages and Swift Publisher. Things you should know about Mac app removal: Uninstalling applications in macOS/Mac OS X is quite different from that in Windows operating system. In normal cases Mac users just need to simply drag and drop the target app to the Trash and then empty the Trash to perform the standard uninstallation. Generally speaking, most Mac applications are separate bundles that contain the executable and any associated resources for the app, and therefore users can easily remove any unwanted software (if they are installed properly) from their Macs. However, a fact is often neglected that, even the stand-alone software may might still leave its configuration and preferences files on multiple system directories after you carry out a basic uninstall. These vestiges can be very small in size, thus leaving them alone may not affect your Mac performance, yet they can also be a large chunks of useless files that occupy a large portion of your hard drive space. In the latter case it is quite necessary to clean out those junk files from your Mac for complete removal. For some novice users, they may have no idea how to remove Address Book Publisher 1.0 in a proper way. Even for the experienced users, they may also get lost when trying to uninstall a problematic, stubborn or even malicious application. In this post we will discuss the following questions: (1) What is the correct way to uninstall Address Book Publisher 1.0? (2) How to ensure all its accompanying components are removed safely? And (3) is there a shortcut for both Mac novices and experts to take to accomplish Address Book Publisher 1.0 removal effortlessly? Conventional Steps to Uninstall Address Book Publisher 1.0 for Mac Prior to the removal of Address Book Publisher 1.0, you should first log into your Mac with an administrator account, and turn Address Book Publisher 1.0 off if it is running. Some apps installed using the Mac package installer will prompt you for a password when you try to move it to the Trash. In any case you cannot move Address Book Publisher 1.0 to the Trash or empty the Trash, try holding the Option key as you choose Empty Trash from the Finder menu, or reboot your Mac and try it again later. Warming: It is important to point out that, emptying the Trash will instantly wipe off Address Book Publisher 1.0 as well as other files you’ve thrown into the Trash, and that this act is irrevocable, so make sure you haven’t mistakenly deleted anything before emptying the Trash. Any time you change your mind and wanna undo the deletion of apps or files, just right click the item in the Trash and select Put Back option. Option 2: Delete Address Book Publisher 1.0 in the Launchpad • Open up Launchpad, and type Address Book Publisher 1.0 in the search box on the top. • • • Click and hold Address Book Publisher 1.0 icon with your mouse button until it starts to wiggle. Then click the “X” that appears on the left upper corner of Address Book Publisher 1.0 to perform the uninstall. This tap-and-hold method is applicable for the apps installed through the App Store, and it requires OS X lion or later.

Another common scenario is let’s say, you just got to know about a cool new Raspberry Pi-based project or Linux distro, and you are dying to try it out. Problem is, you only have one micro SD card, and already have a working installation on it that you do not want to lose. In both the above scenarios, it is helpful to have an exact, bit-by-bit identical backup of your working Raspberry Pi installation. So today, we will learn how to clone or backup the Raspberry Pi micro SD card to an image file, and restore the image after we are done experimenting. We will explain how to do it on Windows, Linux, and finally macOS. Note: This method will create an image file exactly the size of the SD card’s total capacity. For example, if you have a 16 GB SD card, the resulting image file will also be 16 GB, no matter how much space your installation is actually using. There is a method to shrink the image size, but it works only on Linux, and we will be explaining it later in the tutorial. Windows Instructions Backup Raspberry Pi SD Card 1. Insert the micro SD card that you want to clone in your PC using a USB or built-in card reader. And install Win32DiskImager, and run it. Format Raspberry Pi SD card Simplest way to format your card is in Windows 7, open “Computer”, right click your SD card, and click “Format”. Note that In Windows if it only shows 56MB (even after using SD formatter), you can try this official tool from the SD card organisation which should format any SD card. You will see a screen like this. Under the Device section in the top right corner, select the drive of your SD card. It is D: in my case. Now click on the folder icon to its left, and choose a location and filename where the image file will be saved. I chose the file name raspbian_backup_19_oct.img. You can choose whichever filename you like, but it is preferable to have an.img extension. Once done, click on the Read button. This will make a clone of the SD card in the location you specified. The copying will take a while to complete, so do not turn off or put your PC to sleep during this period. Once it is done, you will get a “Read Successful” message. You are now free to insert the card back in your Raspberry Pi and break things or install a new distro. Once you are done playing and want to restore the backed up image, follow the steps in the next section. Restore Raspberry Pi SD Card Insert the micro SD card in your PC, and open Win32DiskImager. Select the image file you created previously, and the appropriate drive in the Device section. Now, click on the Write button. The image will be saved to the SD card, exactly how it was, at the time you copied it. Again, this process will take a while depending on the size of the SD card. Once the restore is complete, you can remove the card from your PC, and insert it back in the Raspberry Pi. Linux Instructions Backup Raspberry Pi SD Card 1. Insert the SD card in your PC using a USB or built-in card reader. Now open a Terminal window, and enter the command sudo fdisk -l. This will list all the filesystems present on your system. Try to find out the device name of your SD card. I have a 16GB SD card, so it is easily identified as the device /dev/sdb which has a size of 14.9GB. This is because the actual storage on a device is always slightly lower than advertised. Note down this device name. Use the dd command to write the image to your hard disk. For example: sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=~/raspbian_backup.img Here, the if parameter (input file) specifies the file to clone. Many users find that using an external keyboard with keyboard shortcuts for Excel for Mac helps them work more efficiently. For users with mobility or vision disabilities, keyboard shortcuts can be easier than using the touchscreen and are an essential alternative to using a mouse. Excel 2016 for Mac brings lots of welcome improvements to the workhorse spreadsheet but also leaves out useful tools.ProsMoving to the cloud: Like the other. If you're used to working with Excel on Windows, one of the most confusing aspects of using Excel on a Mac is shortcuts. Even basic shortcuts you've been using for years in Windows may not work as you expect. After a few problems, you might wind up thinking that Mac shortcuts are 'totally different' or somehow 'broken'. In reality, Excel shortcuts on the Mac are quite capable, you just have to understand and adjust to certain differences. In this article, I'll walk you through the key differences you need to be aware of to work productively with Excel shortcuts on a Mac. Also see: // 3 minute video 1. Special symbols One of more confusing aspects of keyboard shortcuts on the Mac are the symbols you'll see for certain keys. For example, the Command key is abbreviated as ⌘, the Control key with ⌃, and the option key as ⌥. These symbols have a long history on the Mac, and you'll find them in menus everywhere. The Mac Finder – abbreviations appear in all applications, not just Excel You'll see these symbols in menus across all applications, so they're not specific to Excel. There really aren't too many symbols, so I recommend that you bite the bullet and memorize them. The table below shows some example shortcuts with a translation. Command Shortcut Translation New workbook ⌘N Command N Save As ⌘⇧S Command Shift S Toggle ribbon ⌘⌥R Command Option R Paste Special ⌃⌘V Control Command V Select row ⇧Space Shift Space 2. Function keys Like their counterparts in the Windows world, Mac keyboards have function keys. These keys sit at the top of the keyboard and are labeled F1 to F12 on standard keyboards and F13, F14 and higher on extended keyboards. Standard Mac keyboard with 12 function keys As you know, function keys are uses for many shortcuts in Excel. For example, you can use F1 for help, F7 for spelling, and shift + F3 to insert a function. But if you try these shortcuts directly on a Mac, they don't work. By default, Function keys on a Mac control the computer itself, things like screen brightness, volume, video pause and play, and so on. This means that if press only the function keys in Excel, you'll end up controlling the Mac, and not Excel. To make function keys work like you expect in Excel, you need to add a key: the function or fn key. You'll find the fn key in the lower left on your keyboard. Here are a few examples: Command Windows Mac New chart F11 fn F11 Calculate worksheets F9 fn F9 Open Spelling F7 fn F7 Evaluate formula F9 fn F9 If you really hate using the fn key, you can change this behavior by changing a preference at System Preferences > Keyboard. Here you can check a box that will that will change function key behavior to work like 'standard function keys'. If you do this, however, note that you won't be able to use function keys for things like Brightness, Volume, etc. Unless you hold down the fn key. In essence, this setting reverses behavior so that you need to use fn to control the Mac. Personally, I like using the function keys to control the computer, so I leave this setting alone, and just the fn key when needed in Excel. Missing keys Another difference that may trip you up on a Mac is certain keys are missing. Hi folks, I just got this USB modem from AT&T in the USA. I am running 13.04. After fighting with the card in Linux for awhile, I moved it over to my Mac and it works fine over there, so it's not the card or activation problems, etc. Hello, This modem has multiple interfaces that are present the first one as you can see is the mbim driver that attaches to it first (default config which is number 2). You would have to install the libmbim and mbimcli to use it the same way as QMI. The other way I use it is to force the modem to use the other interface by sending a 1 to the bConfigurationValue of the modem this will set it to QMI mode. Dan Hi folks, I just got this USB modem from AT&T in the USA. I am running 13.04. After fighting with the card in Linux for awhile, I moved it over to my Mac and it works fine over there, so it's not the card or activation problems, etc. I just got an AirCard ('AT&T Beam AC340U') or Sierra Wireless 340U or Netgear 340U, last week, and I'm running Ubuntu 13.04. I've tried it in Windows and verified that it does indeed connect, so it's not a problem on that end. I'm trying to get it to work in Ubuntu then potentially migrate it over to a debian based raspberry-Pi. I'm fairly new at configuring remote connectivity via Ubuntu, so if anyone who's had this work in the past/present can provide step-by-step on how they got it to work, I'd very much appreciate it. My dmesg spits out the following: [ 2.690358] usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=1199, idProduct=9051 [ 2.690362] usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 2.690365] usb 2-2: Product: AirCard 340U [ 2.690368] usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless, Incorporated [ 2.690372] usb 2-2: SerialNumber: 44647 [ 2.928049] usb 3-1: new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd [ 3.252227] EXT4-fs (sda5): recovery complete [ 3.257887] EXT4-fs (sda5): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null) I then, per your implied work, installed the Qualcomm MSM Interface protocol (sudo apt-get install libqmi-glib0 and apt-get install libqmi-utils) In going into /dev, I also see that it's filled out cdc-wdm0 as the device, and I get your exact same error mentioned. Dan, I'd love to use the method you've described, but could you please clarify (step-by-step for the uber newbie) how to go about sending a 1 to the bConfigurationValue of the modem to set it to QMI mode? I assume this would also remove the need to install the libmbim and mbimcli libraries? Till then, I'll keep trying. Thanks for any information. Hi folks, I just got this USB modem from AT&T in the USA. Dec 14, 2013 AT&T product pages for the AT&T Beam (AC340U) do not appear to say anything about Mac OS X support, but a 'Device How-To Center' page does. The latter also mentions Netgear as the manufacturer. At a Netgear site, the following page could be found. This page contains information about installing the latest Sierra Wireless AT&T driver downloads using the Sierra Wireless Driver Update Tool. Sierra Wireless AT&T drivers are tiny programs that enable your Mobile Hotspot hardware to communicate with your operating system software. Like most things its the very simple stuff that throws us newbies. My issue at the moment is whenever i open a new window (i.e. Finder window) it opens centralised on the desktop at about 25% of the screen size (ie lots and lots of desktop visible). Now i'm looking for particular files etc this is too small, so the first thing i have to do, is grab the top corner and stretch, grab the bottom corner and stretch etc etc. Its not a big problem, its just bloody annoying. Is there a way to sort this? Under Windows it always just remembered the position/size and that was good enough for me. Sorry that this is such a basic question, but it is quite a hard one to google. Thanks for the answers guys. It's pretty weird then, by thr sounds of it. I really don't want to install an App just to sort it as i'm running a 256 AIR and need to keep it clean for longevity. All i want is that whenever i open a window (finder/Mac disk/et al) that it is size i want (in my cae about 90% of the screen, i.e. Gives me a little room either side for movement but not a tiny window in the middle which is useless for browsing. The latest brings the editing app up to speed with macOS High Sierra and iOS 11, both of which rely on HEVC to compress ultra high-resolution video into manageable chunks. Also referred to as the H.265 codec, HEVC is an improvement over the current H.264 standard that has long been Apple's go-to for efficient video encoding on both iOS and macOS. The new version includes better motion compensation for fast-moving scenes, larger computational errors for difference-coding, and other improvements that allow HEVC to compress video down to nearly half the size of an H.264 clip. With today's update, users can import HEVC files like 4K content captured on iPhone 8 directly into iMovie for cutting. Prior to the app update, such files were available for viewing in on Macs running sixth-generation Intel Core processor or newer, but editing tools were unavailable. Still missing, however, is HEVC support in Apple's, including Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor. For now, pro film makers have to import and convert HEVC H.265 video into the Apple ProRes format. IMovie for Mac is available as a from the Mac App Store. This suggests that Sierra may require imovie 10.1.2 or later. There wilI soon be a lot of posts if this is the case!
